It came down to the last play, but Valhalla Norsemen Varsity was on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Brawley on Monday. Brawley was down 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Caryn Aguilar singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
Samantha Green drove in four runners in the loss. Green drove in runs on a home run in the first and a single in the fourth.
Valhalla Norsemen Varsity opened up scoring in the first inning, when Maryn Jordan singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Valhalla Norsemen Varsity notched three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught by Valhalla Norsemen Varsity was led by Kelly Olson, Yanely Gonzalez, and Bailey Munch, who all drove in runs.
Brawley scored five runs in the sixth inning. Brawley’s big inning was driven by a single by Dana Alvarado, by Kamryn Rodriguez, and a double by Haylee Garcia.
Jalyn Ayala got the start for Brawley. She lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out two and walking one.
Jordan started the game for Valhalla Norsemen Varsity. She surrendered seven runs on nine hits over five and a third innings, striking out one. Delaney Stettler threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Valhalla Norsemen Varsity hit one home run on the day. Green went deep in the first inning.
Valhalla Norsemen Varsity racked up 11 hits. Green, Jordan, and Munch each racked up multiple hits for Valhalla Norsemen Varsity. Green led Valhalla Norsemen Varsity with three hits in four at bats.
