Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Valhalla Norsemen Varsity fell to Hilltop 14-6 on Saturday.
The Valhalla Norsemen Varsity struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hilltop, giving up 14 runs.
Hilltop got on the board in the first inning when Sofia Vega grounded into a double play, but still managed to score one run.
Hilltop took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Elizabeth Olguin singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and Lily Hermosillo singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.
Hilltop scored four runs in the second inning. Hilltop offense in the inning was led by Alexia Sandoval and Olguin, who all drove in runs.
Sandoval pitched Hilltop to victory. She lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking zero.
Maryn Jordan led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Valhalla Norsemen Varsity. She went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out one. Delaney Stettler threw two and two-thirds innings out of the bullpen.
Alexyia Reyes started the game for Hilltop. She allowed ten hits and six runs over two and a third innings, striking out one and walking one
Hilltop launched three home runs on the day. Vanessa De La Luz went for the long ball in the fourth inning. Olguin went deep in the second and fifth innings.
Valhalla Norsemen Varsity tallied 13 hits. Jordan, Samantha Green, Marissa Lupo, Kelly Olson, and Stettler all managed multiple hits for Valhalla Norsemen Varsity. Stettler, Olson, Lupo, Green, and Jordan all had two hits to lead Valhalla Norsemen Varsity.
Hilltop tallied 18 hits on the day. Olguin, Sandoval, Mikayla Galceran, De La Luz, and Nayeli Martinez each had multiple hits for Hilltop. Olguin went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Hilltop in hits.
